إيماناً من (المؤسسة الإسلامية للبحوث والمعلومات) بضرورة تعريف الأمة الإسلامية بسيرة أئمتها المعصومين الذين جعلهم الله تعالى حججاً على عباده، أخذت المؤسسة على عاتقها تحقيق ونشر كل ما تراه مناسباً في هذا المجال.
ولما كانت سيرة الإمام موسى الكاظم عليه السلام واحدة من تلك المحطات التاريخية الزاخرة بالعطاء الرسالي الفذ بما تمثل من قيمومة على الشريعة المقدسة وجهاداً في سبيل إعلاء كلمة الله تعالى وجعلها العليا وصبراُ على تحمل الأذى في مقاومة الظالمين، كان لا بد من الوقوف عندها للتزود منها بالعبر والمواعظ والمواقف التي ترسم للأمة نهج سيرها في سومها نحو بارئها تعالى.
وبناءً على ذلك فقد اعتنى القيمون على المؤسسة بإعادة طباعة كتاب (وفاة الإمام موسى الكاظم عليه السلام) لمؤلفه العلامة الخطيب السيد علي بن الحسين الهاشمي النجفي بعد أن نفذت نسخة منذ زمن بعيد، لما لهذا الكتاب من أهمية علمية تلقي بالضوء على جوانب كثيرة من سيرة هذا الإمام المعصوم.
ولم يقتصر عملهم على مجرد إعادة الطباعة فحسب وإنما على تحقيق الكتاب وفقاً للمتعارف في هذا الفن، ويمكن إجمالاً ما بذلوه من جهد في هذا المجال بما يلي: اعتماد الطبعة الأولى من الكتاب كأصل في التحقيق/ منشورات المطبعة الحيدرية في النجف الأشرف/ 1371هـ-19151م. كل ما أثبته المصنف في الطبعة الأولى في الهوامش من مصادر أو تعليقات ذيل بعبارة: "منه رحمه الله". قاموا بمقابلة النصوص التي أشار المصنف إلى مصادرها في الهامش، وفقاً لنسخ المصادر التي بين أيديهم وأثبتوا رأوه مناسباً من الاختلافات وفقاً لذلك. النصوص أو غيرها التي أشير لمصادرها في الهامش والتي تتوفر لديهم نسخ منها أبقواها كما هي في الطبعة الأولى.
