ولقد كانت طبيعة المعركة مع النفاق مختلفة عن طبيعتها مع الكفر، لأن النفاق جبان، ولديه من أساليب الخداع والتمويه ما ليس لدى الكفر. لكن الخبراء بالمنافقين، وبنفوسهم الخبيثة، وقلوبهم المريضة يعلمونها بما علمهم الله فى كتابه المبين، وسنة نبيه الأمين "صلى الله عليه وسلم" فعند هؤلاء العلماء وحدهم تفضح ألغاز المنافقين.
فإدارة المعركة معهم تحتاج إلى إيمان ويقظة، ولا يتم ذلك إلا بسبيلين: أحدهما التفتيش فى النفس لاستبرائها من علل المنافقين ورذائلهم.
وثانيهما: معرفة صفات التفاق والمنافقين، إذ معرفة العدو هى الخطوة الأولى فى طريق النصر بإذن الله تعالى.
وقد جعلت هذا الكتاب فى مقدمة، وتمهيد، وثلاثة كتب، خاتمة، ثم ذيلته بالفهارس اللازمة، فأما المقدمة فقد شرحت قيها عدة نقاط مهمة هى:
أ-النفاق محله القلب.
ب- بم يعرف النفاق؟
ج-المنافقون شر الناس.
د-وجود النفاق فى هذه الأمة، وأراء العلماء فى ذلك.
وأما التمهيد: فقد شرحت فيه بعض الثوابت والمصطلحات التى تعتبر أصولا لدراسة هذا الموضوع.
وأما الباب الأول فكان بعنوان: الملامح الوجدانية للنفاق والمنافقين وخصائصها. وقد جاء هذا الباب فى أربعة فصول، عبارة عن شرح لصفات المنافقين القلبية.
وأما الباب الثاتى فكان بعنوان: الملامح الحسية للنفاق والمنافقين وخصائصها، وقد جاء هذا الباب -أيضاً- فى ثلاثة فصول عبارة عن شرح لصفاتهم الحسية الظاهرة، التى تعرف فيهم، ويعرفون بها.
وأما الباب الثالث فقد جاء بعنوان: أحكام المنافقين، وقد جاء شرحه فى تمهيد وفصلين.
