"تميزت الكتاتيب في مدينة تِبريز عن غيرها من المدن بأن وجدت على نوعين، ... الملحقة بالمساجد، وأهمها كُـتَّاب الشيخ محمد بن محمد بن يوسف الخلاطي، وكان له كُـتَّاب في المسجد المقابل لدار الضيافة الخاصة بالخواجه شمس الدين محمد الجوين، صاحب الديوان في قرية مِيدان. ويحتمل أن يكون هذا النوع من الكتاتيب خاصًّا بتعليم أبناء العامة من الناس. والنوع الثاني هو تلك الكتاتيب الخاصة بأحد المشايخ، والتي أشهرها على الإطلاق كُتاب الشيخ عز الدين أبي الفضل محمد بن شمس الدين عبد الرحمن بن محمد الآهري، وكان والده من أهل مدينة آهر، وانتقل إلى تبريز، وقطن بها، وكان له كُتاب في تبريز يربِّي فيها أبناء الكبار والسادة، وهذا إن دل على شيء فإنما يوضح أن ذلك النوع من الكتاتيب خاص بتربية وتعليم أبناء الطبقة العليا في المجتمع التبريزي".
