هي حكاية ياسمين التي تثور على قيود مجتمعها، وتتمرد على عاداته الخاطئة التي عفّى عليها الزمن. هي حكاية تلك الفتاة التي دفعت مع أختها لينا ثمن عقدة أُمها التي تزوجت في عمر الخامسة عشرة رجلاً أربعينياً، لتتحول إلى أمٍ قاسيةٍ لا ترأف بهما، وتجعلهما تعيشان في تسلطها الدائم عليهما، حيث لا تتمتعان بقرار ولا حرية اختيار، بل هما فقط جاريتان لدى إخوتهما الذكور.
هي حكاية كل امرأة متمردة على واقع ترفضه، وتُحارب لواقع أفضل وحياة أفضل، فتطوِّر حالَها وقدراتها العلمية لتكون المرأة الحرة التي طالما أرادت أن تكون.
هي كما تصف نفسها داخل صفحات هذه الرواية، "أنا ابنة الحياة، أنا بنت السعادة والفرح، أنا نظرة في عين طفل مريض، أنا أشدّ من العاصفة وأقوى من الموت"..
هي رواية جديرة بالقراءة، لنتعلم منها، أننا رغم قساوة ظروفنا ومجتمعنا، نملك الإرادة للتغيير إلى الأفضل، وفقدان الحب لا يعني أبداً أننا خسرنا وانتهينا، فحب ياسمين لسامر زرع القوة في أعماق قلبها، وعلمها العطاء بلا حدود، وهي بدورها منحتها للمحتاجين إليها، فعبثُ العاصفة برأيها يزول، لذا ضمت ياسمين المحبة إلى صدرها لتسمع في داخلها دائماً صوت الأمل، فهي أوردت عبارة جميلة لجبران خليل جبران تلخِّص ذاتها: "الحب معرفة مقدسة من خلالها يرى الإنسان كما ترى الآلهة".
