قدماها الصغيرتانِ تُسحقانِ في الرِّمال، تحتَ وطأةِ حِمْلٍ، بدا ككِفَتَيِّ ميزانٍ مُثْقلَتَيْنِ ب"كعود الما الحديديةِ الصَّدِئَة، ترفعُهُما بِشقِّ النَّفْس، لكنْ سُرعان ما تُغرسانِ في الرِّمالِ مرةً، تلوَ أُخْرى، لكأنَّهما ترومانِ الإنغماسَ في سحيقِ دِفءِ تلك الرِّمال وظلُماتِها، حيثُ تتشظَّى رُوحُها في استقصاء حالةِ الانفلاتِ، فعَنْوَةً تُراودُها، لكنْ هيهاتَ تأَتيها، عَدا في ظلماتٍ فوقَ ظُلُماتٍ، فوقَها ظُلُماتٌ، تَهوي بها إلى قاع الأرض، حيثُ يَتوسَّدُ الضَّريحُ منفاهُ الأخير.
في "زرب" البقر ولَجَتْ حصةُ مثقلةً بحِمْليها، وقد قَذَفَ الرُّعْبُ في روحها المتهالكةِ رائحةَ الرَّوْثِ المتعفنِ، ممتزجًا بخُوارها المُتهافتِ لإطفاء عَطَشِها.
بحذرٍ شديدٍ اقتربتْ من مَوضِع قِدْرِ الماءِ الكبيرة، انحنتْ، وسكبَتْ حِمْليها، ولاذتْ مُسرعةً بالفِرار، قبلَ أن تَدْهَمَها البقرُ و"العيول".
