"عناق الأسرة" رواية تناقضات تدور أحداثها خلال الإجتياح الأمريكي لليابان إبّان الحرب العالمية الثانية، وهي تتناول التضارب بين التقاليد الشرقية والتقاليد الغربية، والنزاع بين زوج وزوجته، والتناقض بين المثل العليا والواقع.
في بداية الرواية، يكون "ميوا شنزوك" وزوجته" حبيسَيْ" زواج منهك، يُهاجم كل واحد منهما الآخر بطريقة غير مباشرة مثلما تفعل شخصيات مسرحية: "من يخشى فرجينيا ولف؟" لكن عندما ترتبط زوجته بعلاقة غرامية مع جندي أمريكي يستسلم ميوا ليقرّ بإنفجار علاقته معها وإنتهاء زواجه والإقتناع بأنّ محاولاته لرأب صدع علاقتهما لن تزيد العلاقة إلاّ تدهوراً يقضي على زواجه.
نالت هذه الرواية عدة جوائز، ورأى فيها النقّاد إستعارة رمزية للمجتمع الياباني ما بعد الحرب العالمية الثانية، حيث يتمّ تهميش الأصول التقليدية والأخلاقية والفلسفية للثقافة اليابانية لصالح التوافق مع القيم والأنماط الغربية.
ألف "نوبو كوجيما" ما يزيد على ثلاثين رواية وبحثاً ودراسة نقدية، وقد حصل على جائزة أغاتوا، وجائزة تانيزاكي جونيشيرو الأدبية، وجائزة وزير التربية، وإضافة إلى الكتب التي ألفها، ترجم كذلك أعمال "وليام سارويان وجي دي سالنغر" إلى اليابانية.
"عناق الأسرة" هو أوّل كتاب له تتمّ ترجمته إلى الإنكليزية وعنها إلى العربية.
