* حصل على ليسانس دار العلوم جامعة القاهرة سنة 1959م ، وبكونه أول الدفعة عين معيدًا بقسم التاريخ الإسلامي .
* حصل على جائزة الأبحاث من جامعة القاهرة في سنة 1969م وأيضًا في السنة التالية .
* نال درجة الماجستير بتقدير امتياز سنة 1963م في التاريخ الإسلامي فأوفدته جامعة القاهرة إلى إنجلترا لدراسة الدكتوراه .
* في سنة 1967م حصل على درجة الدكتوراه من جامعة كمبردج وعين مدرسًا للتاريخ الإسلامي بكلية دار العلوم .
* أعير إلى جامعة الملك آل سعود بالرياض سنة 1971م ثم انتقل إلى جامعة الإمام محمد بن سعود الإسلامية .
* ارتقى إلى مرتبة أستاذ في سنة 1983م ثم انتخب رئيسًا لقسم التاريخ والحضارة بكلية العلوم الاجتماعية .
* أشرف على العديد من رسائل الماجستير والدكتوراه .
* قدم برامج في التاريخ والحضارة الإسلامية وذلك في إذاعة الرياض وإذاعة نداء الإسلام .
* نشرت له المجلات المتخصصة العديد من الأبحاث وأسهم بدراساته في مؤتمرات عقدت في السعودية ومصر والأردن وتونس والعراق .
* له مؤلفات تغلب على معظمها الصبغة الإسلامية منها : الجبهة الإسلامية في عهد الحروب الصليبية ، وانتشار الإسلام حول بحر قزوين ، ومراكز الحضارة الإسلامية ، والعالم الإسلامي في العصر العباسي .
* يعكف حاليًا على إعداد موسوعة تغطي التاريخ الإسلامي بمراحله المختلفة .

يتناول الكتاب دراسة مرحلة هامة فى حياة العالم الإسلامى وتاريخة ألا وهى مرحلة الحروب أو الحملات الصليبية. ففى الكتاب تتناول الجبهات الثلاث الذى كان لهما الاحتكاك و المواجهة مع هذا العدوان وهى مصر وفلسطين والشام. قيبدأ بجولة عامة لمعرفة حال الدول الاسلامية فى الوقت الذى يسبق الحملات فى مصر والشام والعراق وأسيا الصغرى أى مسح عامثم يبدأ فى الدراية بعوامل الضعف وتأسيس الإمارات الأربعين والتوسع الصليبى ثم نمو المقاومة افسلامية والقضاء على الحملات الصليبية وذلك من خلال دراسة الثلاث جبهات السابق ذكرها.
