الإعراب "وهو ما يعرف اليوم بالنحو" علم بأصول تعرف بها أحوال الكلمات العربية من حيث الإعراب والبناء، أي من حيث ما يعرض لها في حال تركيبها. فيه نعرف ما يجب عليه أن يكون آخر الكلمة من رفع أو نصب أو جر أو جزم أو لزوم حالة واحدة. بعد انتظامها في الجملة ومعرفته ضرورية لكل من يزاول الكتابة والخطابة ومدارسة الآداب العربية، وقد صنف في هذا الفن المصنفات الكثيرة للمبتدئ والمستفيد، وللصغير والكبير، وإنما أردنا بهذه الكتابة اليسيرة أن نجعل للمبتدئ فيه درجة صغرى تكون سلماً إلى "متن الآجرومية" الذي يعتبره أهل الفن أصغر درجة لطالب النحو. ولكن لما وجدنا من الطلاب من يستصعبه أحببنا أن نجعل ما هو أيسر من ذلك لعل الله أن يجعل فيه العون والتوفيق لطالبي هذا الفن. وأنا لم آت فيه بجديد وإنما جمعت من كتب أهل العلم بعض القواعد المهمة وأكثرت فيه من التمارين لتعين على فهم القاعدة، وجعلته على جزئين، الجزء الأول خالي من الإعراب، والجزء الثاني قواعد في الإعراب.
