يتكون الكتاب الحالي من خمسة فصول: الفصل الأول يعرض للعلاقات المتبادلة بين اللغة والمجتمع كثنائية لا ينفصل عنصراها, ثم لطبيعة العلاقة بين البلاغة كعلم والأتصال, وإشكاليات تدريس البلاغة.
ويستعرض الفصل الثاني قضايا الأستعمال اللغوي, وعلم اللغة تعريفاً, وموضوعاً, ومكونات الحدث الأتصالي, ويختتم الفصل بطرح كيفية البدء من الأداء وليس الكفاءة؛ لآن هذا يساير طبيعة اللغة في واقع الأستعمال.
أما الفصل الثالث فيستعرض فيه المؤلف موضوع السياق من زوايا علم اللغة الحديث, والبلاغة, والدراسات القرآنية, ثم يتناول أنواع السياق, والعلاقات المتبادلة بينها, والتداولية وعلاقتها بالبلاغة وعلم اللغة الإجتماعي.
ويجئ الفصل الرابع ليعرض نتائج دراسة تجريبية أجراها المؤلف في مجال توظيف علم اللغة الإجتماعي في تدريس البلاغة.
وفي الفصل الخامس يقدم المؤلف رؤية تطبيقية لما أشتمل عليه الكتاب من موضوعات نظرية, وهذا ما يشغل الباحثون في مجال المناهج وطرق التدريس, والمعلمون, كما يتضمن الفصل التطبيقي نموذجاً لأختبار الغرض منه مستويات الخطاب اللغوي في المواقف الإجتماعية.
