عبد القاهر الأشعري الذي تنسب إليه نظرية النظم ويستهدف بها بعض الأغراض الدينية والكلامية، وهذه النظرية تقوم على دعامة من النحو والنظم وبيان مدى العلاقة بينهما، وأهمية هذه العلاقة في الإحساس بمجال الكلام، والوقوف على أبعاده الحقيقية من حسن التأليف وانسجام التركيب، فالكلمة في حد ذاتها وما تتصف به من جمال أو قبح لا أهمية لها في ذاتها، بل أهميتها في موقعها من الجملة، وحسن ملاءمة معناها لمعاني جاراتها، فالمحسن راجع إلى النظم دون اللفظ، والجمال في المجاز لا ينبع من الكلمة، فالكلمة لا تكون مجازاً إلا وهي داخلة ضمن الكلام واعتبرت جزءًا من النظم والتأليف، وهذا هو ما نتناوله بالتفصيل في هذه الدراسة.
