سبب طبع هذا الكتاب
هذا كتاب قصير الفصول، كثير الفوائد، لما حوى من المباحث الجليلة، التى تدل على أن صاحبه اطلع على كل ما كتبه من تقدمه من أكابر المصنفين في هذا الموضوع الجزيل الفوائد.
نعلم ذلك من استشهاد ببعض ما نقله عن الكندي، ونصر الجوهري الفارسي، وأبي الريحان البيروني، وابن زهر، والغافقي، وغيرهم.- لا بل نراه يذكر مصطلحات للجوهريين، لم يذكرها سواه، لأنه زاد على ما سبقه، ما سمعه في زمانه، بعيد عهد العباسيين، إذ استحدثت أوضاع جديدة مع توالي الزمن.
ولهذا عنينا بطبعه واخراجه بحلة قشيبة، للباحثين في علم الجواهر والحجارة النفيسة، وليرى أهل عصرنا، ان الأقدمين منا كانوا واقفين على أسرار هذه اللغة البديعة، وان مصطلحات ابناء الالسنة الأخرى الحية، والمعروفة في عصرنا هذا لا تجاريها في ما وضعه الناطقون بالضاد، منذ عصر العباسيين إلى عهد المؤلف.
وجدير بالذكر أن الكتاب ملحق بآخره تعليقات وفوائد للاستاذ الجليل "روكسى زائد العزيزي""
