يجهل أكثر العرب والمسلمين أن أقدم مصدر في اليوغا أو اليوغا سوترا لـِ باتنجلي ترجم إلى العربية منذ نحو ألف سنة، أما المترجم فالعالم الكبير أبو الريحان البيروني، وكان عمله أول نقل لكتاب هندي فلسفي إلى لغة خارج الهند.
وهذا الكتاب يدرس هذه الظاهرة اللافتة في تاريخ الأديان وحوار الحضارات ويبحث في التفاعل بين التصوفين الهندي والإسلامي، ويقدم للمرة الأولى النص الكامل لكتاب باتنجل للبيروني مقروناً بشروحات وافية والنص الكامل لــ "اليوغا سوترا" منقولاً عن لغته الأصلية: السنسكريتية.
ويحاول أن يستجلي الأثر الهندي في التصوّف الأثر الهندي في التصوّف الإسلامي إستناداً إلى آراء البيروني وغيره من علماء الأديان المقارنة.
