مؤلف هذه الفصول كان أستاذا للحضارة العربية بالسربون, ومديرا لمعهد الدراسات العربية والإسلامية بجامعة باريس, وأستاذا زائر بالجامعات المصرية, فكان لوفاته رنة أسى فى قلوب عارفيه من أبناء الأقطار العربية.
أما الفصول المترجمة فى هذا الكتاب فقد تباعدت بينها المسافة الزمانية والمكانية, وإن كانت على تنوعها تصل بتراث الإسلام فى المغرب والأندلس, مما جاز معه جمعها بين دفتى كتاب واحد. ومن هذه الفصول, وهى عشرة, أربعة عن المغرب هى: تأسيس مدينة فاس, وملاحظات عن أسماء المدن والمواضع فى المغرب والأندلس وتأملات فى إمبراطورية المرابطين فى مطلع القرن الثانى عشر, ثم مولد إمبراطورية ان تومرت وعبد المؤمن فقيه سوس وسراج الموحدين
وأما الخمسة التى عن إسبانيا الإسلامية فهى: تبادل السفارات بين قرطبة وبيزنطية فى القرن الحادى عشر, وألفونس السادس واستيلاؤه على طليطلة, "وزايدة المسلمة" زوجة ألفونس السادس وابنهما الأمير سانشو, والسيد فى التاريخ. واستيلاء السيد على بلنسية فى المصادر الإسلامية, والأصل العربى "للمدونة العامة فى إسبانيا" ثم الشعر العربى فى إسبانيا والشعر الأوربى فى العصور الوسطى. بقى الفصل العاشر عن الدور الروحى لإسبانيا الإسلامية.
وهذه الفصول من قبيل الأبحاث المفردة التى تنصب على موضوع بذاته فى اتجاه رأسى لاستقصاء جزئياته, وتفريع مسائلة, واستخراج الحقائق التى ينبنى عليها البحث الكلى, فلا يتأتى هذا إلا بذاك
