وفي محاولة منه للحد من نشاطات الحزب وترسيخ الإنشقاق في صفوفه، جعله مكتب التحقيقات الفدرالي ضمن أهدافه المهمة في برنامج سري هدفه القضاء على كل الحركات المعارضة للحرب في فيتنام أو تكون ناشطة في الحركة المطالبة بالحقوق المدنية.
وبأساليب مختلفة، تمكن المكتب من القضاء على الحزب في النهاية، من غير أن يمكنه من العمل بحرية لا في أوساط السود ولا في أوساط البيض، فاختفى في عام 1971.
