روائي وصحافي لبناني في جريدة "النهار".
ولد محمد أبي سمرا عام 1953 في قرية شبعا الجبلية النائية .
ثم انتقل ووالدته وأخواه عام 1962 إلى ضاحية بيروت .
تخرج في دار المعلمين عام 1977 ثم بدأ العمل في الصحافة الثقافية إلى جانب عمله بالتعليم ككثير من أقرانه المدرسين الصحافيين الملتزمين بالقومية والعروبة والأحزاب العقائدية .
نال شهادة دبلوم في علم الاجتماع الثقافي عام 1984 ، وكانت أطروحته حول الأخوين رحباني وفيروز وتأثيرهم على الحياة اللبنانية .
بعدها سافر إلى ليون عام 1985 هرباً من حمى الحرب .
وفي فرنسا كتب روايته الأولى بولين وأطيافها التي نشرت عام 1990 ببيروت ، تلتها الأعمال الآتية : الرجل السابق ، رواية ، دار الجديد 1995 سكان الصور ، رواية ، دار النهار 2003 كزابلانكا بيروت كردستان
Book Description
إن رواية "بولين وأطيافها" تعكس الأجواء الاجتماعية والريفية والزراعية في احدى القرى، بسردية فذة تستحق الاهتمام، ذلك لأن الرواية صدرت في مرحلة ملتبسة وبقية شبه مغمورة.
جاء في تعريف الرواية:
الأم والموت لا شيء في وعي الابن كان ينفصل عن قدرهما، كأنهما أصل الحياة والوجود والعالم. مساءً، قبل أن ينام، كانت أمه تقول له إن الحيّات والعقارب تخرج من باطن الأرض في الليلة الأولى التي تلي دفن الميت، وتروح تنهش عينيه، تحكي له عن الأنبياء والله والملائكة والشياطين والصراط المستقيم والجنة والنار.. فيمتلئ البيت كله بظلال الموتى... في البيت المشترك، كان يحاول جاهدا ان يستجمع في عينيه دموعا حين يرى أمه تصفع وجهها صفعات مريعة فيما تتشاجر ما جدته. مرة شعر براحة غامرة لما بال في ثيابه قاعدا على الحصيرة، فيما هما تتشاجران.
