"شيراز مدينة الأولياء والشعراء" هو الكتاب الثالث من هذه السلسلة الفريدة. ويسعى آرثر أربري، ها هنا، إلى أن يفسر تاريخ شيراز تفسيراً يعلّل خلودها الصامد عبر قرون وقرون من الفوضى والظلم وإراقة الدماء والصراع الإقليمي والتهدم مرة بعد أخرى، إنها المدينة ذات التراث الروحي الخالص الذي يجد تجسّده في حياة وأعمال رجال الفن والدين فيها، رجال الشعر والتصوف، من أمثال سعدي وحافظ وابن خفيف وروزبهان البقلي، بل أكثر من هذا يرى المؤلف أن السر كل السر في خلود شيراز هو في عناصر سمّاها "عبادة الجمال، ومحبة الجميل ورؤية الجمال روحاً خالداً يتعالى عن المظاهر ولكنه يسبغ عليها في الوقت نفسه مدلولاتها، مضيفاً معنى على الحياة، وتعزية وسط إزراء الحياة التي لا تحصى". وقد فتش الكاتب على هذا في تاريخ شيراز، فكان بذلك رائداً من روّاد فهم مدينة الأولياء والشعراء.
