"صعد الجنرال أوديرنو بنفسه إلى المدرعة، ووقف خلف الرشاش وسارت بنا القافلة على طول نهر ديالى، بينما انحشرت أنا عند قدميه... قبل أيام تعرّضنا لهجوم بشاحنة ملغومة ثم تلتها شاحنة أخرى تفجّرت في الداخل، وتسببت بإنهيار المبنى ما أدى إلى مقتل تسعة من الجنود الذين كانوا في الداخل، والآن نحن نمشط البساتين، فيما شرعت فرقة أخرى ببناء ما تهدّم من أجل إظهار إلتزامنا للمدنيين".
مثل هذه الصور، احتوتها مذكّرات إيما سكاي التي تقول عن نفسها بأنها الآن تعيش كإمرأة عراقية في المنفى، فقد تركت التجربة العراقية بصماتها عليها.
لقد شهدت إيما اللحظات المفصلية في تاريخ العراق ما بعد الغزو الأميركي، حيث عملت لعقد من الزمان كمستشارة سياسية لأعلى الجنرالات الأميركيين رتبة في العراق، وشهدت ولادة الحكومة العراقية الجديدة، مثلما تابعت التمرّد المسلح بكل مراحله، ثم أشرفت شخصياً على تجربة (الصحوة)، والمصالحة التي جرت مع بعض فصائل الميليشيات المسلحة.
ودوّنت لنا كل تفاصيل عمليات الموجة التي هزمت تنظيم القاعدة، وجلبت الإستقرار النسبي للعراق، ثم وقفت تتابع بعيون كليلة كيف أصبح العراق مسألة ثانوية في إدارة الرئيس أوباما، وصار شغله الشاغل أن تنسحب القوات الأميركية من العراق بأسرع وقت، وإنهارت التجربة التي علّقت عليها الآمال.
لهذا جاء اسم كتابها (الإنهيار)، ليعبّر بوضوح عن امل امرأة حاولت أن تعتذر من العراقيين عبر العمل داخل المؤسسة العسكرية الأميركية، وربما تكون قد نجحت في تقديم الإعتذار، لكن الضرر قد أصاب العراق وأدّى به في النهاية إلى التفكك تحت ظل تنظيم الدولة الإسلامية، وإخفاقات التجربة الديمقراطية المتعثرة.
