إن هذا الكتاب هو الجزء الثالث من كتاب مسالك الأبصار في أخبار ممالك الأمصار، وعجائب الأخبار، ومحاسن الأشعار، وعيون الآثار، وكتاب مسالك الأبصار مرجعاً تاريخياً مهماً هذا يعد فهو عبارة عن تأريخ مفصل من بداية الإسلام إلى أواخر القرن الثلاث عشر الهجري فضلاً عن ما يسرده من عجائب الآثار، وقد حصلت هذه المخطوطة الجزء الثالث بوساطة الأخ رزكار عمر محمد جزاه الله خيراً في مكتبة السليمانية فالمخطوطة تتكون من عشرين جزءاً.
والكتاب يخط المؤلف والموجود منها حالياً في مكتبة السليمانية تسعة أجزاء المذكورة وهذا الجزء من الكتاب يتناول مرحلة مهمة من تأريخ الأمة الإسلامية التي شهد فيها العراق من تطوراتٍ وحركات، وهي معارك الخوارج يبدأ في أخبار المهلب بن أبي صفرة، وقطري بن الفُجاءة، ومعارك شبيب بن يزيد الشيباني مع الحجاج الذي كان والياً لعبد الملك بن مروان على العراق وجزء من معارك شونب الخارجي الذي خرج في أواخر خلافة عمر بن عبد العزيز رضي الله عنه، وعبد الله بن يحيى الكندي الحضرمي الملقب بطالب الحق مع آخر خليفة أموي وهو مروان بن محمد الحمار ووليد بن طريف الشيباني الخارجي الشاري الذي خرج في خلافة هارون الرشيد، وينتهي الكتاب بأخبار صاحب الزنج مفصلة.
