تبدأ "خِفَّةُ يد" مع الرّاوي وسلامة ويوسف وعروة المدني وسوين وملاك وسيمو وآخرين وأخريات، وتنتهي مع شخصيّة واحدة ووحيدة لا تعرف نفسها، كما لا يعرفها القارئ من هي بالضبط. شخصيّات تتخلّق مستقلّة عن بعضها البعض، لكلّ منها ذاتها الخاصّة، وتاريخها، ومزاجها، ومسارها الحرّ في الحياة. لكنّ المسافة بين الشخصيّة والأخرى تضيق شيئاً فشيئاً، إلى أن تجد الشخصيات نفسها في حالة صدام صاخب، تضطرّ معه كلُّ منها إلى ابتلاع الأخرى. وبين البداية والنهاية يفتح القارئ عينيه مراراً، وهو متيقّن من أنّه أمسك بخيوط العمل، لكنّه يكتشف كلّ مرّة أنّها ألعاب الخفّة الماكرة، التي يبرعُ بها إسلام أبو شكير، ولكنه هنا يُظهِر براعة فريدة حيث يستدرج قارئه إلى ألعابه دون أن يشعر، ليكون واحداً من ضحاياها الكثر الذين كان شاهداً على سقوطهم واحداً تلو الآخر.
