يعد فالتر بنيامين (1892- 1940) ناقد أدبي ألماني ينتمي إلى الرعيل الأول من رواد النظرية النقدية (أو مدرسة فرانكفورت). يعتمد مفهوم النقد الجمالي، ثم طور هذا المفهوم ليشتغل على مفهوم نقدي خاص يجعله من زمرة أولئك الذين يعسر تصنيفهم أو مقارنتهم بغيرهم. وعليه، فالسؤال الذي يمكن أن يطرح، ما هو التصنيف اللائق بكتابة بنيامين في نص (شارع ذو اتجاه واحد)، ولماذا هو ليس لا بفلسفة ولا بشعر وهل يمكن إدراجه في سياق فكر النظرية النقدية؟
عند الدخول إلى متن نص "شارع ذو اتجاه واحد" سوف يتبين للقارئ أن بنيامين يشتغل فيه على كوكبة مركبة من المسائل تعود إلى مسألتين رئيسيتين، إحداهما مسألة الكتابة (بما هي كتابة الأنا وأحلامه وكتابة في المجتمع بمسوخاته وانحرافاته، بل الكتابة باعتبارها معمارية "دخيلاء" الأنا والجمع معاً)، وثانيهما مسألة الخطاب الإشهاري وما يقتضيه من تشخيص نقدي مدقق لمدينة الراهن بشوارعها وموانئها وحاناتها وواجاتها ثم للآيات التي تنذر بحلول هول تاريخي لا معالم محدَدة له، ولكنه في هذه المسألة وتلك وعلى ما يرى الدكتور ناجي العونلَي الذي نقل الكتاب إلى العربية –يفتتح على حد عبارة "بلوخ" "بازاراً فلسفياً" يؤثثه بجملة من العناوين التي ينم صوغها عن صناعة عنونة قلما نجد لها نظيراً، وبشبكة مركبة من الشذرات تشي بأفانين "صعلكة" نقدية هي بمثابة الترحَل النظري بين أشياء العالم وظواهره وبكلام آخر إن نص "شارع ذو اتجاه واحد" الذي صدر في العام 1928، هو، تفعيل استثنائي لكتابة متشذرةٍ تبادر في الأساس إلى تجريب "تحليلية نقدية للمتنافر" تفرد بكتابتها فالتر بنيامين عن غيره من نقاد عصره.
