هذا هو المجلد السابع فى موسوعة كوبلستون الكبرى فى تاريخ الفلسفة الغربية والتى استمرت سنوات طوال نكافح فى إصدارها وقد اضطرنا فى سنة من السنوات لإصدار مجلد قبل مجلد؟ فقد صدر على سبيل المثال الذى يدرس الفلسفة الإنجليزية من بنتام إلى رسل كما يدرس الفلسفة المريكية البرجماتية قبل أن نتمكن من إصدار المجلد السابع الحالى مع أن الكتاب الحالى يعد من أهم أجزاء هذه السلسلة إن لم يكن أهمها جميعاً؛ ذلك لأنه يعالج الحركة المثالية الألمانية بعد أن توقف المجلد السادس عند كانط.
ومن هنا فقد قسمه المؤلف ثلاثة أجزاء على النحو الآتى: 1- الجزء الأول أسماه "المذاهب المثالية فيما بعد كانط".
2- الجزء الثانى وعنوانه "رد فعل ضد المثالية الميتافيزيقية".
3- الجزء الثالث وعنوانه "تيارات الفكر المتأخرة".
