إن التاريخ عامة هو دراسة موضوعية للأحداث الماضية حتى تتمكن الأجيال اللاحقة من إصلاح الحاضر وبناء المستقبل، وهي معادلة لا تستقيم ولا يرجى منها النفع للأجيال الصاعدة إلا إذا بنيت على حقائق سليمة. وقد اخترنا هذه المرحلة 1914- 1918 لنستعرض من خلالها وضعية الأهالي الجزائريين خلال تلك الحرب الكونية التي دمرت الأخضر واليابس. وعلى كل فإن مبتغانا هو جمع مادة يمكن العودة إليها بسهولة ليستشف منها القارئ معاناة الأهالي الجزائريين في الحرب العالمية الأولى وما قدموه من تضحيات جسام في مختلف المجالات البشرية منها والاقتصادية والاجتماعية، وما نجم عن ذلك كله بعد نهاية الحرب العالمية الأولى من آثار سياسية على الفرد الجزائري، فإن وفقنا بعض التوفيق فيما كنّــا نطمح إليه فإن ذلك سيعطي لمحة لجيل الاستقلال الذين وقاهم الله شر معاناة أسلافهم بكل فئاتهم خلال مختلف المراحل التي عاشوها تحت وطأة الاستدمار الفرنسي. وسيكون عملنـا هذا مدعاة لاستخدام العقل للمقارنة بين مختلف المصادر والمراجع من أجل الاستقصاء ثم الاستنتاج للوصول على الأقل للحقيقة المرة التي تبين معاناة الجزائريين في ظل المستعمرين عبر مختلف المراحل التي عاشوها تحت نير الاستعباد الجهنمي.
