يعرض المؤلف في هذا الكتاب لمحة تشريحية فيزيولوجية حول جهاز البول، ويبين كيف تتم عملية التبول الطبيعي، وبعد ذلك يعرض لمرض السلس البولي عند الأطفال، موضحاً أسبابه المرضية، والتي يردّ بعضها لتأخر نضج المراكز العصبية أو لنقص إفراز ADH عند الطفل، أو للاضطرابات العاطفية، ولعسرة الوظائف المثانية عصبية المنشأ... ومن ثم يقدم مجموعة من الأسئلة الخاصة بهذا المرض بهدف تقييم وتشخيص سلس البول الليلي وتحديد السبل العملية للعلاج والتي يقول أن بعضها نفسي وهو خاص بالوالدين وبمعاملتهما للطفل وبعضها الآخر جسدي.
إن سلس البول الليلي عند الأطفال يشكل مصدر ظلم كبير للأم والطفل على حد سواء. أما ظلم الأم فيأتي من عذابها المستمر في تنظيم ملابس وسرير الطفل، مما يولد لديها حزناً عميقاً وانزعاجاً كبيراً لعدم ضبط طفلها لتبوله، رغم بلوغه عمراً يؤهله لذلك، مما يضطرها إلى اللجوء إلى التأنيث والعنف.
كما أن هذا المرض يشكل مصدر إزعاج وظلم كبيرين للطفل نفسه أيضاً، فهو دائم الإحراج جراء شعوره بكراهية والديه وإخوته ورفاقه بالمدرسة له، مما يؤدي إلى تعميق مشاكله النفسية، مما يزيد في حالة السلس لديه.
إن السلس الليلي عند الأطفال مرض قابل للشفاء وبسهولة إذا ما تم التعاون الجيد بين الطبيب وأهل الطفل واقتنعوا بإرشادات الطبيب النفسية والطبية، وأيقنوا أن الأسباب النفسية لهذا المرض هامة جداً.
