يستهدف هذا الكتاب شرح وتنقيح (الأسس المنطقية للإستقراء) للسيد محمد باقر الصدر، وهي دراسة جديدة قدمها السيد، للإستقراء تستهدف - كما عنون ذلك على كتابه - الأساس المنطقي المشترك للعلوم الطبيعية والإيمان بالله تعالى.
وهذا الكتاب ليس فقط شرحاً للنظرية، بل يعد تعديلاً عليه، فهناك بعض النقد لبعض متون الكتاب؛ يبتدئ البحث في بيان المشكلة التي حاول معالجتها المنطق الأرسطي والتجريبي، ثم يناقش هذه المحاولات وينتقدها، ويقدم بعد ذلك نظرية الإحتمال كنظرية تعالج المشكلة، لكن بعد إعادة صياغتها وتصقيلها وفق نظرية الصدر، ومناقشة باقي المذاهب المتفقة في دور نظرية الإحتمال في المعالجة واختلفت في التفسير، ثم بعد ذلك يشرح البحث كيف أن الدليل الإستقرائي هو تطبيق للإحتمال وفق النظرية الصدرية ويعبر عن المرحلة الأولى للدليل الإستقرائي للوصول إلى اليقين، ثم يشرح المرحلة الثانية التي أسماها الصدر بالتوالد الذاتي، وبعد ذلك يتم تطبيقه على نظرية المعرفة وإثبات الصانع الحكيم للكون المنظم.
