يتطلّع هذا الكتاب إلى أن يسدّ فراغاً في الثقافة الإعلاميّة العربيّة على وجه العموم، فضلاً عن تطلّعه إلى أن يكون مرجعاً لطلبية الصحافة والإعلام ومحبّي هذه المهنة، الّتي يُطلق عليها "مهنة البحث عن المتاعب"، حيث أمضى الكاتب فيها ما يزيد على ثلاثين عاماً؛ وما بقاؤه طوال هذه المدّة ومواصلته العمل فيها حتّى الآن إلاّ لأنّ المتاعب، في المحصّلة النهائيّة، جميلةً وممتعة على الرغم مّما فيها من صعوباتٍ وضغوطاتٍ نفسيّة وشدّ أعصاب لا نهاية له.
الدافع الأساسيّ من وراء إنجاز هذا الكتاب هو إرواء عطش الطلبة ومحبّي الصحافة بمادّة تجمع الروح العلميّة مع الخبرة الشخصيّة والدِّربة العمليّة، فضلاً عن التركيز على أن صناعة الإعلام لا تتوقف فقط عند صناعة المحتوى، بل تهتمّ بصناعة التقاليد الإعلاميّة، وتكريس القيم الأخلاقيّة في التعامل مع المحتوى الإخباريّ؛ وهذه من أشدّ القضايا التي تعصف بالإعلام بشكل عامّ، والإعلام العربيّ على نحو خاصّ.
ويؤمنّ مؤلف هذا الكتاب بأنّ الإعلام بلا أخلاقيات هو عملٌ فارغ المحتوى، وفاقد المصداقيّة، وليس أكثر من صرخةٍ عمياء في وادٍ غير ذي زرع؛ كما يؤمن بأن الإعلام هدفه الأسمى هو الحقيقة وجعل المعرفة في متناول الجميع.
ومن أكثر التحدّيات، التي تواجه كتاباً كهذا يتصدّى لإيقاع الإعلام وحركيته، أنّ التسارع في ميدان علم الإتصال وفنونه يمضي بسرعةٍ شديدة، ما يجعل اللحاق بها أمراً شاقاً، فحقل الإعلام ما زال من أكثر الحقول التي يصيبها التغيير.
وبالتالي فإنّ المؤلف يكتفي بأن يكون كتابه شاهداً على حقبةٍ ثريّة من الإعلام وتحوّلات الفنون الصحفيّة بمنصّاتها المتعدّدة، وأنّه عايش زمنين من حضرة "صاحبة الجلالة": الأوّل كان عصر الورق، والثاني عصر الديجتال، وكلا العصرين يلزمهما الإحساس العالي بالمسؤوليّة، والشعور السامي بالأخلاقيّات الضابطة للإعلام، وكذلك الشجاعة في قول الحق والدفاع عنه مهما بلغت التضحيات.
