ماكس فريش (15 مايو 1911- 4 أبريل 1991) من أعظم أدباء سويسرا, وهو كاتب مسرحي وروائي، عُرف اسمه بروايته شتيلر عام 1954، كما أوجدت له كلا من روايتيه هومو فابر وماين نامه زي جانتنباين (اسمي جانتنباين) مكانة متميزة ككاتب نثري. تعرف على الأديب الألماني الكبير برتولت بريشت مما كان له أثر كبير في حياته.

يرسم ماكس فريش في مسرحيته الأخيرة " لوحة من ثلاث صور" 1983 صورة مكتملة للناحية النفسية للفرد في أثناء الحياة مع الشريك الآخر بل وبعد الموت، ويتيح فرصة للقاء بين الأحياء والأموات، وفيها يظهر بصورة واضحة الشعور بالإغتراب وعدم تغيير ما كان، وأبدية الحياة الاولي. وقد كتب ماكس فريش هذه المسرحية في سن متقدمة، وتأثر فيها بحالة الملل واليأس التي تصيب الإنسان عند إنتظار الموت، فيصبح الموت شاغله الأول والأخير. وموضوع المسرحية يتناول الموت من جميع جوانبه الدينية والإنسانية والإجتماعية، وتصور المسرحية الضعف البشري وحالة اليأس والملل التي يعيشها الإنسان عند بلوغه سنا متقدمة، وخاصة عند فقده شريك حياته، كما تقدم تعريفا للموت والحياة وموقف الإنسان منهما.
