"أم الجميع" كتاب ضمّ ثلاثة أعمال مسرحية، نسجت مشاهدها من واقع المأساة الفلسطينية، ومن وحي معاناة الفلسطيني الذي شهدت حياته مراحل ثلاث. مرحلة التشرد والضياع ومرحلة الانكسار، والثاني (حرب) ومرحلة الانكسار، والثالث (حرب فلسطين على الأراضي اللبنانية) انكسارات فلسطينية ثلاث حاول "أفنان قاسم ترميزها من خلال ثلاثية: مأساة الثريا، سقوط جوبتين، ابنة روما. مشاهد وشخصيات جسدت وقائع المأساة الفلسطينية بأبعادها السياسية والاجتماعية والثورية والوطنية، واقع متغير وهدف واحد هو المضي على طريق التحرير.
بين يدي القارئ ثلاثية مسرحية تحاول أن تكتب الفاجعة الفلسطينية من خلال فاجعة أسرة صنيعة بنت المقدادي، المدعوة باسم أُم الجميع. فالمسرحية الأولى "مأساة الثريا" تبني المرحلة الواقعة بين الهزيمتين 48 و76، والمسرحية الثانية "سقوط جوبيتر" تبني المرحلة التي تلت 67 إلى الحرب في عمان، أما المسرحية الثالثة "ابنة روما"، فتبني مرحلة الحرب في لبنان، وفي البناء الفني هنا، أولاً وقبل كل شيء، يذهب التأريخ أو التقرير، ليأتي الأبطال التراجيديون الذي هم ذواتهم كبشر، وهم استعارات ورموز.
أفنان القاسم يرى في الصراعات والتناقضات الدائرة بروح الباحث المغامر، والمتخيل لديه تشكله حركية الخشبة واللغة، وغنائية الواقعة والأسطورة.
