ابتعث الله سبحانه وتعالى محمداً "صلى الله عليه وسلم"، فرفع القابح وشرع المصالح فسار أصحابه معه وبعده فى ضوء نوره، سالمين من العدو وغروره، فلما انسلخ نهار وجودهم أقبلت أغباش الظلمات، فعادت الأهواء تنشى بدعاً، وتضيق سبيلاً مازال متسعاً، ففرق الأكثرون دينهم وكانوا شيعاً، ونهض إبليس يلبس ويزخرف ويفرق ويؤلف، وإنما يصح له التلصص فى ليل الجهل، فلو قد طلع عليه صبح العلم افتضح، فرأيت أن أحذر من مكايده، وأدل على مصاديه، فإن فى تعريف الشر تحذيراً عن الوقع فيه، ففى الصحيحين من حديث حذيفة قال: كان الناس يسألون رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم عن الخبر، وكنت أساله عن الشر، مخافة أن يدركنى، وقد وضعت هذا الكتاب محذراً من فتنه، ومخوفاً من محنه وكاشفاً عن مستوره، وفاضحاً له فى خفى غروره، والله المعين بجوده، كل فى مقصوده.
