"أسرع يا أحمض! سيبدأ الاحتفال!"
قفز أحمض من أمام كتبه، فقد انشغل برياضة عقله ونسي أن الاحتفال على وشك الابتداء. وارتدى نعله في سهوله ويسر، فلم تعد تحتاج إلى إصلاح، حيث أن أهل الروضة الجديدة قد مهدوا الطرقات لكي تناسب النعال الجديدة.
وخرج أحمض ومحموض لمشاهدة عرض الجيش للاحتفال بمرور عام على إقامة روضتهم. ونظر أحمض إلى جموع الناس التي اجتمعت بهذه المناسبة، وتذكر أن آخر مرة اجتمع الناس فيها بهذا الشكل كان ليلة قادهم الحاج عوض لطرد المروضين، ثم يوم إعدامه بعدها. الوجوه هي نفس الوجوه، ولكن كل ما عدا ذلك تغير واختلف اختلاف الليل والنهار.
