لست أحاول في هذا الكتاب إثبات أمر لا جدال فيه، خاصة في هذا العصر الذي أصبح الإلحاد فيه "موضة قديمة"، بل ومرتبطة بفئة انقرضت سياسيًا ولم يعد لنضالها جدوى أو لشعاراتها بد، فنظرية وجود الله، قتلت بحثًا وحسمت لصالح العلم منذ سنوات بل ويأتي ما يثبتها كل يوم. لكن الغرض الحقيقي من هذا الكتاب هو الإسهام في توضيح صورة الله عند الناس، كيف يرونه؟ لماذا تتجه صورة الإله في ذهن الإنسان نحو المنقذ.. رب الأزمات.. أو نحو العدل فلماذا يدع الظلم والعدوان يستفحل على الأرض؟.. أو نحو الرزق، فلا يكون محورًا للخواطر البشرية إلا في قضية الرزق والمال.. لماذا منعني أو أعطى غيري؟ أو لماذا اختصني بالثروة؟ هذا بخلاف كون صورة الإله قابعة في أعماق العقل الباطن عند كل فرد يستدعيها وفق ما يعتريه من مواقف حياتية.
فمن وجهة نظري المحدودة أرى أنه آن الأوان للتحلي بنظرة جديدة للإله، هي في حقيقة الأمر ليست بجديدة بل هي صلب الإسلام وحقيقة الغيمان التي أصلها الرسول فيما أوحى إليه، وتعايش معها صحابته وتابعوه. هذه النظرة يعيها أهل المحبة ويولونها كل الاهتمام، فهي سر حياتهم ومداد بقائهم، هي النظرة التي اكتحلت بها أعين رابعة العدوية وذي النون المصري وإبراهيم بن أدهم ومعروف الكرخي وبشر الحافي والجنيد والبلخي والبسطامي.
