في هذه الأيام المظلمة من تاريخ بلاد الرافدين، حين تتطلع أنظارُ العالم بقلق إلى المأساة الدائرة على أرض أقدم حضارة بشرية، أنجزت المؤلفة هذا العمل بكثير من الشغف ليكون وسيلة لإغناء المعرفة.
ولقد استعرضت في هذا الكتاب تاريخ بلاد الرافدين منذ بداية الإمبراطوريات القديمة حتى نهاية الإمبراطورية الكلدانية وسعيت إلى إبراز نقاط القوة في مجريات هذا التاريخ وذلك بدراسةٍ مركزّة وموسعةٍ لتاريخ الآشوريين والبابليين الذين استطاعوا تشكيل إمبراطوريات كبرى شاملة لكل مساحة الشرق الأدنى القديم، من دون إهمال لتاريخ شعوب أخرى لعبت دوراً فعالاً على هذه الساحة أو تهميش للممالك الصغيرة التي قامت في سورية وإسرائيل والساحل الفينقيّ حيث شكلت مقاومتها لسيطرة بابل وآشور جزءاً لا يتجزأ من تاريخ هاتين الإمبراطوريتين.
منذ بداية الألف الثاني ظهر مصطلح بلاد بابل مقابلاً ومناظر لبلاد آشور، الأولى في جنوب الرافدين، والثانية في الشمال، وشهد تاريخ المنطقتين صراعات طويلة وقاسية ترافقت مع أحداث متشابكة وحروب لم تنتهِ فصولاً حتى أنهت معها حكم السامييّن لهذه المنطقة حوالي ألف عام، إلى أن بزغَ فجر العصر الإسلاميّ العربيّ.
وفي هذا الإطار الأرضيّ، ونظراً لتعقد الأحداث وتسارعها، وتعدد وجهات النظر المثارة حولها إختارت المؤلفة ما بدا لي مثيراً للإهتمام، وعليه فهذا الكتاب ليس عرضاً كاملاً وشاملاً لهذه المسألة التاريخية، بل هو محاولة لبناء هيكل للوقائع تزيّنه الحقائق المستقاة من الأصول والمصادر ومؤلفات الشخصيات العظيمة من علماء الآثار وكبار المؤرخين المتخصصين الذين أخرجوا إلى النور حقائق هذا التاريخ بجهدهم وفكرهم والكثير والكثير من محبتهم.
