ميخائيل يوريفيتش ليرمنتوف (وُلد في 15 أكتوبر 1814 وتوفي في 27 يوليو 1841) أديب روسي رومانتيكي يُدعى أحياناً "شاعر القوقاز. أحد أهم الشعراء الروس بعد وفاة ألكساندر بوشكين.

"ميخائيل ليرمنتوف" هو رائد الأدب الرومنسي الروسي، وأوّل من كتب في الرواية البسيكولوجيّة في بلاده، ترك نتاجاً أدبياً غزيراً على الرغم من قصر حياته، وتأثّر بأدبه إلى حدٍّ كبير تولستوي ودوستويفسكي وبلوك وبعد ذلك باسترناك.
وتعتبر رواية "بطل من هذا الزمان"، وهي الرواية الوحيدة التي أنهى كتابتها، تحفةً أدبيّة رائعة يفخر بها الأدب الروسي.
رواية "بطل من هذا الزمان" تتضمّن أربع قصص صغيرة بطلها بتشورين الذي يعاني من الإستياء الشديد من محيطه؛ يتعرّف القارئ إلى الجزء الخارجي من شخصيّة بتشورين عن طريق الوصف، وإلى الجزء الداخلي والنفسي من خلال ما يكتبه بطل القصّة في يوميّاته.
تكمن أهميّة الكتاب في ما يتضمّنه من تحليل نفسي لبطل الرواية الذي يمثّل نموذجاً حقيقياً للشباب الرومنسي المعذّب الذي يستقيظ على خيبات الأمل في ظلّ حكم الإمبراطورية الروسية، إضافةً إلى ما يقدّمه من وصف للحياة اليوميّة للشعب الروسي في ذلك العصر.
وإذا استعدنا بعض ما كتبه ليرمنتوف عن بطل روايته نقرأ: "لا يقدّم كتاب "بطل من هذا الزمان" وصفاً لشخصيّة بطل القصّة فحسب، بل تجسيد لكلّ ما يعاني منه شباب العصر من رذائل في أوج تفاعلاتها".
