تجمع هذه السلسلة تراث الشعوب من الحكايات والأساطير والخرافات الشعبية، وتتوزع الحكايات على"72" كتابا حيث جرى اختيارها من كتب أنجزها علماء أنثروبولوجيا بارزون في نهايات القرن التاسع عشر والربع الأول من القرن العشرين في ذروة صعود علم الأنثروبولوجيا عندما دأب عدد كبير من العلماء على استكشاف ميراث الشعوب وتسجيل وتوثيق حكاياتهم قبل أن تضيع. تتضمن هذه الكتب الحكايات من دول أوروبية وآسيوية وأميركية وأفريقية وغيرها . وتهدف السلسلة إلى مد جسور التواصل بين شعوب الأرض وحضاراتها، وتعزيز العمق الثقافي الجامع بين مختلف الأعراق والجنسيات والثقافات، وجمعها تحت سقف واحد، هو سقف الثقافة والمعرفة والكلمة التي تجمع ولا تفرق، لتؤكد أن ما اصطلحت البشرية على تسميته "عولمة" منذ عقدين من الزمان والنيف، كان متحققًا بالفعل منذ مئات بل آلاف السنين.
هذه الحكايات الشعبية مبنية على فلكلور سكان (جولد كوست)، أي جمهورية (غانا) حالياً، وتمتد من استعمار بريطانيا لها عام 1821م حتى استقلالها عام 1957م، وقد اختيرت بعناية لتقدم للقارئ تعريفاً بأفكار زنوج غرب أفريقيا وعاداتهم.
والعديد من حكايات "أنانسي" أو "العنكبوت" وهي القسم الأول من هذه المجموعة، تروى حتى اليوم من ملاحظة وسائل العنكبوت وخصائصه الفريدة، فهو مخلوق حكيم وماكر في آن معاً، أما القسم الثاني (حكايات متنوعة)فيقدم تفسيرات عفوية لممارسة ثقافية أو بيولوجية أو سلوك بشري أو حيواني، من دون أن يخفى تشابهها المذهل مع ما في الأساطير الأوروبية أو حكايات الجنيات.
