هذا الكتاب "ترجمة الأولياء في الموصل الحدباء" من كتب الزيارات التي تبحث عن المراقد والمشاهد التي يقصدها الناس للزيارة كمراقد الأنبياء والصحابة والأولياء والصالحين – وهو أحد الكتب التي تبحث عن الأماكن التي تُزار في الموصل، في القرن الثالث عشر للهجرة، والتي لم يزل أكثرها باقياً إلى اليوم.
مؤلف الكتاب "أحمد بن الخياط الموصلي" (1195-1285ه) أخذ العلم عن شيوخ الموصل، وآخر من درس على يديه هو الشيخ عبد الله بن محمد بن عبد الله العمري، المشهور بـ"عبد الله باش عالم" والكتاب كما جاء في ترجمة المؤلف: "... جال في خلدي أن أعمل رسالة لطيفة، ونسخة شريفة، مشتماة على مناتقب عدة أنبياء، وجملة أولياء، وفرقة مشائخ أنقياء، وزمرة علماء عاملين، وصلحاء واصلين، الذين هم في داخل مدينة الموصل المحروسة وخارجها وملحقاتها، ظاهري المراقد والآثار، باهري الفيض والأنوار ...".
والكتاب يقدم للقارىء مشاهداً عن المذاهب الإسلامية السائدة في عصر المؤلف ولا سيما المذهب الحنفي، والحياة العلمية والآداب التي أعقبت فتح المدارس في الموصل، وكيف نشطت الطرق الصوفية وعظم شأنها في البلد، ومساعدة التكايا على تهذيب الشباب، وإرشادهم إلى الخير والفضيلة، وصارت محافل تلاوة، ومجالس وعظ وإرشاد، وحلقات ذكر وتسبيح. وأما أكثر الطرق انتشاراً في الموصل فهي: النقشبندية، والقادرية، والرفاعية، والبكاشية، والشاذلية، والخلوتية.
كما يخصص المؤلف باباً لكل إسم من أهل القبور أو المراقد في الموصل مع الصور ومنها: النبي شيت، النبي يونس بن منى، مقام الخضر، الإمام حمزة، الإمام عون الدين، الست فاطمة، الست كلثوم، الست نفيسة، الشيخ قاسم العمري، الشيخ محمد الغزلاني، الشيخ شمس الدين الموصلي، مقام إبي المغيث الحسين بن منصور الحلاج (...) وآخرون.
