يسعى هذا الكتاب إلى التعريف بالأسس النظرية لإستطلاعات وبحوث الرأى العام والإعلام، وتقديم نماذج تطبيقية، ويعرف القارئ بأمثلة من الإسهامات العربية فى هذا المجال، تعود فكرة إصدار هذا الكتاب إلى عام 1989، حينما أختارتنى وزارة الإعلام العمانية مستشاراً للرأى العام ودراسات وبحوث المستمعين والمشاهدين، وعكفت من خلال الإعداد للدورات التدريبية والعمل البحثى اليومى، على إعداد الأسس النظرية التى يتكون منها هذا الكتاب، وجاءت معظم النماذج التطبيقية من بحوث أجريت بالفعل أو خطط لإجرائها، أو صدر بعضها فى مجلة: البحوث الإعلامية التى تصدر عن جامعة الأزهر، أو صدرت فى كتب ومجلدات تقدم معلومات نظرية وتطبيقية عن مسيرة الإعلام بسلطنة عمان واستخدامات الجمهور العمانى والعربى لوسائل الإعلام العمانية والإشباعات المتحققة، وأتطلع أن يقدم هذا الكتاب -من خلال خبرة نظرية وممارسة عملية فى هذا المجال- ما يفيد الطالب والباحث والممارس الإعلامى على تصميم وتنفيذ استطلاعات وبحوث الرأى العام والإعلام.
