محمد بن عبد الله ( أبي بكر) بن محمد ابن أحمد بن مجاهد القيسي الدمشقي الشافعي، شمس الدين، الشهير بابن ناصر الدين: حافظ للحديث، مؤرخ. أصله من حماة. ولد في دمشق، وولي مشيخة دار الحديث الأشرفية (سنة 837) وقتل شهيدا في إحدى قرى دمشق. من كتبه (افتتاح القاري لصحيح البخاري) و (عقود الدرر في علوم الأثر) و (الرد الوافر - ط) في الانتصار لابن تيمية، و (برد الأكباد عن فقد الأولاد - ط) و (شرح منظومة الاصطلاح - خ) في مصطلح الحديث، و (بديعة البيان - خ) أرجوزة في التراجم، على طريقة مبتكرة في تواريخ الوفيات، و (التبيان - خ) شرحها، و (السراق والمتكلم فيهم من الرواة - خ) و (كشف القناع عن حال من ادعى الصحبة أو له اتباع - خ) و (الإعلام بما وقع في مشتبه الذهبي من الأوهام - خ) رأيته في مجلد واحد مع التبيان، واستفدت منهما، و (المولد النبوي) ثلاثة أجزاء، و (سلوة الكئيب بوفاة الحبيب - خ) في خزانة الرباط (2694 كتاني) و (مختصر إعراب القرآن، للسفاقسي - خ) النصف الثاني منه، في الظاهرية بدمشق، و (ريع الفرع، في شرح حديث أم زرع - خ) رسالة في خزانة الرباط (2124 كتاني)

إن التاريخ مرآةُ الزمان، وفيه تراجمُ الأعيان، وأخبارُ الشجعان، وربما أفاد حزماً وعزماً، وموعظةً وعلماً، وهمةً تُذهِب همًّا, وبياناً يُزِيل وهماً، لذلك لم تعتنِ أمة من الأمم بتاريخها، مثلما اعتنت هذه الأمة بتاريخها؛ إذ إن العناية بكتابة التاريخ لازمٌ من لوازم دينها، والتاريخ رجال وأحداث، ولقد أبدع أجدادنا في دراسة الرجال، وسرْد الأحداث، وهذا الكتاب خاصّ بالرجال الذين لهم صلة وثيقة بعلم الحديث رواية ودراية. فهو عبارة عن ثلاثة مجلدات، ويتضمن فصلين:
الفصل الأول: خُصِّص للدراسة ويتضمن: ـ الحديث عن حياة المؤلف السياسية، والاجتماعية والثقافية. ـ دراسة المؤلف: ولادته ونشأته، رحلاته، شيوخه، تلامذته، محنة الشيخ، آثاره العلمية. ـ دراسة الكتاب وفيها: كتب التراجم، سمات المنهج، حساب الجمل، المميزات العامة حسب تسلسل الطبقات، الطبقة الثانية كبار التابعين، الطبقة الثالثة من أوساط التابعين، الطبقة الرابعة من متأخري التابعين، ويتسلسل إلى أن يصل إلى الطبقة الخامسة والعشرين. الفصل الثاني: ويشمل النصَّ المحقق.
يشار إلى أن هذا الكتاب في أصله أربع رسائل جامعية نال بها محققو الكتاب درجة الدكتوراه في التاريخ من جامعة بغداد.
ينصح به: كل طالب علم متخصص في تحقيق تراث هذه الأمة الزاخر، تهمه معرفة رجال الحديث من حيث الجرح والتعديل، والصدق، والكذب، والحفظ، والضعف.
