يظن المرء في كثير من الأحيان، عندما يسمع باسم بلد من البلدان لأول وهلة، أن هذا البلد ليس فيه مسلمون، ولا حتى إسلام، ولكن عندما يبحث ويدقق ويراجع ويسأل يجد أن أغلب أبناء هذا البلد هم من المسلمين.
ومن هذه البلدان إثيوبيا، التي يذكر التاريخ أنها كانت أول بلد إحتضن المسلمين الأوائل يوم فروا هرباً من بطش قريش وظلمها في عصر الإسلام الأول، وكانت يومها تسمى الحبشة، وقد قدم لهم آنذاك ملك الحبشة الحماية والأمان بعد أن حاولت فريش إستردادهم، لا بل تشير التفاصيل التاريخية إلى أن ملك الحبشة أسلم مع بعض رعيته، وإن أخفى أسلامه، بعد أن اخبره معفر بن ابي طالب عن مبادئ الإسلام الحنيف، وعن رأي الإسلام بالنبي عيسى رضي الله عنه وامه مريم رضي الله عنها.
وفي عصرنا الحالي تختلف التقديرات في نسبة المسلمين الإثيوبيين إلى سكان إثيوبيا بالإجمال، لكن بعض الدراسات تشير إلى أنهم أقل من نصف الإثيوبيين، وهم في غالبيتهم من المسلمين السنة، إلى جانب نسبة اقل من المسلمين الشيعة.
من هنا لا بد من طرح التساؤلات التالية: ماذا نعرف عن إثيوبيا التي فيها هذه النسبة من المسلمين؟ ماذا نعرف عن مكونات الشعب الإثيوبي؟ ماذا نعرف عن تاريخها وماضيها وحاضرها؟ ماذا نعرف عن موقعها الجغرافي، ومعالمها السياحية؟
وبعد كل ذلك لا بد من التعمق أكثر في هذا الموضوع، لنسأل عن مساحتها، ولغتها، وعدد نفوسها، ونظامها، وإماراتها، هل إستعمرت أو لا، كيف وصلها الإسلام، وأحوال المسلمين فيها، ومعاناتهم مع الغرب والصليبية، كيف كانت علاقتهم بالحكام، أضف إلى ذلك كم عدد المسلمين فيها.
وأخيراً لا بد من إلقاء الضوء على أهم الأعلام الإثيوبيين واشهر المؤسسات الإسلامية هناك، وكيف تأسست؟ ولئن كان ليس من السهل أن يكتب المرء عن المسلمين في إثيوبيا لأن الغرب الصليبي حاول أن يقضي عليهم بشتى الوسائل والأساليب، لكن مؤلف هذا الكراس الشيخ محمد صادق محمد الكرباسي إستطاع أن يفي هذا الموضوع حقه بالكامل، لأنه أضاء على جانب هام من جوانب الإسلام والمسلمين في إفريقيا في عصرنا الحاضر.
