يأتي هذا الكتاب نتاجاً لحلقة نقاش عقدها مركز دراسات الشرق الأوسط- الأردن، بعنوان "تركيا وإسرائيل بعد الاعتداء على أسطول الحرية" وكانت بعد خمسة أيام من الهجوم الإسرائيلي على الأسطول الذي انطلق من تركيا باتجاه قطاع غزة بهدف كسر الحصار المفروض عليه منذ ما يقرب من أربع سنوات.
يتناول الكتاب أسباب الهجوم الإسرائيلي على أسطول الحرية وحيثياته، وما ترتب عليه من رد فعل تركي وعربي وإسلامي ودولي، وتداعيات الهجوم على العلاقات التركية- الإسرائيلية، وإلقاء الضوء على العلاقات التي قد تفرزها هذه التطورات بين البلدين وانعكاساتها.
يتضمن الكتاب ثلاثة محاور رئيسة، تحدث الأول منها تحدث عن التداعيات السياسية للهجوم الإسرائيلي، أما المحور الثاني فتناول الأبعاد القانونية للهجوم وإمكانيات الملاحقة القضائية لإسرائيل، وحدد المحور الثالث انعكاسات الهجوم على العلاقات التركية- الإسرائيلية.
وضح الكتاب أن الهدف الحقيقي لأسطول الحرية سياسياً لإعادة الانتباه الدولي لمأساة قطاع غزة التي يعيشها جراء الحصار الذي تفرضه دولة الاحتلال إسرائيل عليه منذ سنوات بدعم دولي وموافقة عربية، عدا عن الهدف المعلن وهو تقديم العون والمساعدة، ورأى الكتاب أن قضية حصار غزة عادت إلى رأس الأجندة الدولية، وحركت الشارع العربي والإسلامي والدولي للمطالبة بإنهائه.
