أفضل ما يقال في وصف كتاب نجدة اليراع، كلام هو بيت القصيد افتتح به الكتابَ مؤلفهُ، وبيّن للقارئِ مراده، فقد ذكر ما نصه: "تبينت ما يعترض في سبيل الكاتب من المهاوي والعقبات، وما يفتقر إليه لبلوغ الغايات، هجمت بي المروءة العربية، وانبرت بي النخوة الأدبية، إلى نشر كتاب يردُّ المعدم من الأدباء غنياً، والملتاح مستوفياً ريَّاً، ويفتح لمن يشتهي نشر المقالات في الجرائد أبواب البلاغة، ويهيء للقلم في كل باب مساغه، كيف لا وقد بوبته تبويباً يجمع بين الطالب وطلبته، ويبشر المغتل بنقع غلته، وذلك أنه يتسنى به للكاتب أن يطلب غرضه في الباب الذي يكتب فيه فما يكاد يفتح ذلك الباب حتى يجده كأنه حبيب ينتظر لقاءه، أو قمر يرتقب الساري ضياءه، ولوفاءه بالمراد، وإعانته على السداد، سميته نجدة اليراع تشبيهاً له بالمنجد، ولصاحب اليراع بالمستنجد، وقد قسمته إلى ثلاثة أجزاء الجزء الأول يحتوي فِقراً للبلغاءِ، والجزء الثاني في المتضادات، والجزء الثالث في القيود والأمثال...".
