يعد علم النحو واسطة العقد بين العلوم. وهو إلى ذلك هو العلم الذي من خلاله يتوصل إلى فهم كتاب الله العزيز ويتضح به حديث الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم. ولما كان هذا العلم بهذه الأهمية توجه الباحث لإختيار موضوع رسالته لنيل درجة الماجيستير ليكون باباً من أبواب علم النحو. وهو "أمهات الأبواب في حروف المعاني" وجاء ذلك ضمن تمهيد وفصول ثلاثة ثم خاتمة. في التمهيد عرض الباحث لموضوعين مهمين وهما: 1- عرض لدراسة حروف المعاني تضمن أهم إتجاهات التأليف فيها عند النحويين المتقدمين منهم والمتأخرين. الثاني وقد تضمن دراسة لغوية لمعنى (أم)، داخلاً من خلالها على إستعمالات النحويين لأصالة الحروف في أبوابها، عارضاً إستعمال العرب للفظ (أمهات)، و الأحرف المختصة بالدخول على الأسماء، فتضمن أربعة مباحث وهي: 1-باب الأحرف المشبه بـ (ليس). 2-باب حروف الجر. 3-باب أسلوب القسم. 4-باب أسلوب النداء. الفصل الثاني وتم تخصيصه للأحرف المختصة بالدخول على الأفعال، فتضمن ثلاثة مباحث وهي: باب أحرف الجزم. 2-باب أسلوب الشرط. 3-باب أحرف النصب. أما الفصل الثالث فقد تناول الأحرف غير المختصة. وتضمن مباحث ثلاثة وهي: 1- باب أسلوب الإستثناء. 2-باب أسلوب الإستفهام. 3-باب أحرف عطف النسق. وأخيراً الخاتمة التي جاءت بمثابة عرض مقتضب لمادة البحث ولتتضمن أهم النتائج التي توصل إليها الباحث، ثم ثبتاً بالمصادر والمراجع. أما من حيث المنهجية فقد تمت هذه الدراسة على منهج واحد سرت عليه فصول البحث كلها. إذ إنقسمت دراسة كل موضوع على قسمين، تم في القسم الأول عرض توطئة نحوية مقتبسة من أهم الكتب النحوية واللغوية، مع ذكر أهم الخلافات بين النحويين في هذه الموضوعات مع دراسة مختصرة لحروفه وإستعمالاته بما ورد من الشواهد النحوية. وتم في القسم الثاني عرض للعلل الداعية غلى إختصاص الحرف دون غيره بالأمومة والأصالة، مع التركيز على الأمور المهمة منها وتفصيل القول فيها.
