أتاح لي وجودي بمكتبة الملك فهد الوطنية الإطلاع على مقتنياتها من الصحف والمجلات القديمة، وبالذات صحافة الأفراد منذ دخول الملك المؤسس عبد العزيز بن عبد الرحمن الحجاز عام 1343هـ إلى أن صدر نظام المؤسسات الصحفية في منتصف عام 1383هـ.
لقد تتبعت الصحف منذ بدايتها فوجدت الكثير من الكنوز الأدبية المنوعة شعراً ونثراً.
وقد بدأت قبل خمس سنوات بالسهل من تلك الصحف وصدر لي عام 1423هــ / 2002م "البدايات الصحفية في المملكة العربية السعودية 1-المنطقة الشرقية" اخترت المنطقة الشرقية لقلة ما صدر بها من مطبوعات ولسهولة وجود أكثر أعدادها في المكتبة، ولحبي لرائدها الأستاذ عبد الكريم الجهيمان أول رئيس لتحرير أول صحيفة تصدر بها "أخبار الظهران" عام 1374هـ.
وقد استهواني العمل والحماس، فجمعت ما صدر بالمنطقة الوسطى وبالذات مدينة الرياض من صحف ومجلات سواء منها صحافة الأفراد أو صحافة المؤسسات والوزارات الرسمية، وقدمتها كجزءٍ ثانٍ صدر عن مركز حمد الجاسر الثقافي بالرياض قبل أشهر.
وهذا العمل الذي بين يديك - عزيزي القارئ - هو الجزء الثالث "البدايات الصحفية في المملكة العربية السعودية - 3- المنطقة الغربية" والذي أخذ مني وقتاً وجهداً غير قليلين، إذ تتبعت مسار الصحافة في المنطقة طوال أربعين عاماً منذ صدور جريدة أم القرى في منتصف جمادى الأولى من عام 1343هـ وحتى صدور مجلة رابطة العالم الإسلامي في شهر ربيع الأول عام 1382هـ، مروراً باثنتي عشرة جريدة وإحدى عشرة مجلة، صدرت كلها في المنطقة العربية من المملكة.
إنها مجرد إطلالة سريعة وتذكير لهذا الجيل وما بعده بأن هناك صحفاً ومجلات سبق أن صدرت وأن هناك رجالاً ضحوا من أجل بناء هذا الوطن كل حسب قدرته وإمكاناته.
ولعل مناسبة اختيار مكة المكرمة عاصفة للثقافة الإسلامية عام 1426هـ فرصة سانحة لإصدار هذه المحاولة المتواضعة إسهاماً في إبراز دور أبناء مكة المكرمة خاصة والمنطقة الغربية عامة، في النهضة الصحفية التي شهدتها بلادنا.
