ومؤلف هذا الكتاب: محمد بن عبد الرزاق القشعمي يكاد أن يكون متخصصاً في هذا النوع من التأليف، فهو منقِّبٌ بارعٌ وصبور، وله هَوَس في تتبع المعلومات مهما كانت ضئيلة في مضان لا تخطر على البال، وهو لا يدَّعي أنه يكتب سيرةً مستفيضةً، بل هو يجمع أشتاتاً متفرِّقاتٍ، وينظمها في حلقات يأخذ بعضها برقاب بعض، هذا صنيع يُشكر عليه.
أنت ستجد - في هذا الكتاب - معلومات لا يمكن المجادلة حولها؛ لأنها من مصادرَ موثوقةٍ، أو أنها من الروايات الشفهية المستفيضة بين الناس، لكن الجديد أنها بعيدة عن التناول، ولا يستطيع أحدنا أن يعثر عليها مكتوبة؛ لهذا يكتفي أحدنا بالرواية الشفهية.
والمشافهة مصدرٌ من مصادر التاريخ، لكنها تحتاج إلى ما يدعِّمها من التاريخ المدوَّن، وإلاّ تنازعتها تخصصات عدة.
