ترومُ هذه الدراسةُ الكشفَ عن المفارقة وتجلياتها في الرواية السعودية المعاصرة؛ فالمفارقة تُعدُّ تقنيةً فنيةً، وحيلةً لغويةً ساخرة، تقوم على التضاد والتناقض وكسر أُفق التوقعات، وقد استعملها الأدباء للتعبير عن قضاياهم ومواقفهم من الحياة والوجود، فضلاً عن أنها تضفي على صوت الأديب مسحةً شعريَّةً تنأى به عن السقوط في شَرَك المباشرة والتقريرية.
وقد افتقرت الساحة النقدية إلى دراسة هذه التقنية في الرواية السعودية على وجه الخصوص، ومن هنا، فإنَّ أهميَّة هذه الدراسة تتمظهر في كونها الأولى التي تتناول بنية المفارقة في الرواية السعودية المعاصرة بشكلٍ يتّسم بطابعٍ بانوراميّ، لا سيما أنها تفيد كثيراً من المنجزات التنظيرية لإشكالية المفارقة التي تجدُها في ثنايا الدراسات العربية والغربية، وتتخذها منطلقا لتكييف الإطار العام للدراسة الحاليَّة، على أنَّ ذلك لا يعني الإكتفاء بتأصيل أولئك النقّاد والباحثين، بل تروم الدراسةُ إضافاتٍ تطبيقيّةً مؤسَّسةً على خصوصية المفارقة في الرواية السعودية المعاصرة.
