يسعى هذا الكتاب إلى التعريف بشخصية الشيخ عيسى بن صالح الحارثي من خلال الكشف عن سيرته ودراسة جوانب حياته وشخصيته، وتتبع مواقفه من الأحداث والتحولات التاريخية الهامة في عُمان خلال الفترة الزمنية التي عاصرها، وإبراز الدور السياسي للشيخ عيسى بن صالح الحارثي في أحداث الصراع بين الإمامة والسلطة في عُمان بين عامي (1896م و 1946م) والكشف عن الدور الإجتماعي الذي لعبه الشيخ عيسى بن صالح الحارثي، وإبراز مكانته العلمية والفكرية من خلال مؤلفاته أو إنتاجه العلمي، ما كُتِبَ عنه، وقد اعتمدت هذه الدراسة على المنهج التاريخي الوصفي التحليلي من خلال وصف وتحليل سيرة الشيخ عيسى بن صالح الحارثي (1290- 1365هـ/ 1874- 1946م) من خلال الإستعانة بالمصادر والوثائق التاريخية العربية والأجنبية المنشورة وغير المنشورة، وتحليل كتابه (خلاصة الوسائل بترتيب المسائل) إضافة إلى اللجوء إلى التاريخ الشفوي، وإجراء عدد من المقالات الشخصية مع معاصري الشيخ عيسى بن صالح كما أسلفت.
