وكانت قد نُشرت لأول مرة عام 1613 قبل رحيل مبدعها بثلاث سنوات، وهو من كتب في تقديمها: أؤكد لك أيها القارئ العزيز أنه ليس بإمكانك أبداً أن تقطّع أوصال هذه القصص، لقد أطلقت عليها صفة "الأنموذجية": لأنك إذا تمعّنت فيها بدقّة، لن ترى أية قصة منها تخلو من مثال مفيد، ولولا خوفي من الإسهاب فيها، لربما أظهرت لك الثمار الصحيّة اللذيذة التي يمكن إستخلاصها منها، سواء أكانت ككتلة كاملة، أو قصّة قصة.
كما كتب تيكنور في كتابه (تاريخ الأدب الإسباني) أن هذه (الروايات الأنموذجية) تُظْهِر عظمة موهبة ثربانتس، وأنننا كلما تفحّصناها أكثر، وجدنا أنها أصيلة جداً في تكوينها ونبرتها العامة، وأنها موسومة بحدّة الذكاء الفطري لمؤلّفها.
بتصنيف الأعمال الإبداعية لثربانتس، تأتي هذه المجموعة في المرتبة الثانية بعد رواية "دون كيخوته": وهي تسبقها من ناحية جمالية الأنموذج ودقّته... إنها جديدة، ونابعة من التربة الزكية الرائحة للطابع الوطني، فضلاً عن الطابع الذي نجده في الأندلس، والذي تمت كتابته بثراء وروح وكياسة مما جعلها عصيّة على المنافسة، مع أنها أقدم حكايات من نوعها في إسبانيا كلها".
