قال دافنشي : ليس للانسان حق في أن يحب أو يكره أي شئ، إذغ لم يكن قد اكتسب معرفة تامة بطبيعته.
لم يعجب هذا الكلام المحلل النفسي فرويد الذي ينظر للحب من زاوية أخرى.
حسب فرويد.. "ليس صحيحاً أن الناس يمتنعون عن الحب أو الكراهية حتى يكونوا قد درسوا وأصبحوا على دراية بطبيعة الموضوع الذي يودون أن يبدلوا له هذه العواطف، فهم على العكس.
- وهنا يخالف منطق دافنشي - يحبون قهراً، وتقودهم الدوافع العاطفية التي لا صلة لها بالمعرفة.
من هنا كان الجدال بينهما عن الحب كمفهوم للحب بين الفن والدين.
الحب بين دافنشي وفرويد، هو رؤية بين عصرين وثقافتين: فلسفة النهضة الجمالية وقرن الطب العقلي/النفسي.
