شهد القرنان الماضيان موجة هائلة من الوعي عمت العالم الإسلامي من أقصاه إلى أقصاه، وكثرت حركات الإحياء الإسلامي وتنوعت، وفي إطار هذه اليقظة الإسلامية الشاملة بُذِلَت محاولات حثيثة لإزالة الغبار الذي تراكم على نظرية المعرفة الإسلامية؛ بعدما تسللت إليها الرؤية الأجنبية التي وفدت إلى العالم الإسلامي مع الغزاة والمستعمرين، ولم ترحل برحيله، وكادت تطمس معالمه وملامحه، فباتت أشد خطرًا من الأمراض الفتاكة؛ إذ إنها تغلغلت لدينا في المناهج الاقتصادية والسياسية، وشكلت الكثير من أفكارنا عن الحقيقة والطبيعة والإنسان والمجتمع.
ومن هنا باتت الحاجة ملحة إلى إيجاد صياغة إسلامية للعلوم المعاصرة، بحيث يصاغ كل علم صياغة جديدة تجسد قيم الإسلام ومبادئه في منهجيته وإستراتيجيته، وفي معطياته ومشاكله، وفي أغراضه وطموحاته.
وقد طُرِحت الكثير من الدراسات حول قضية أسلمة العلوم، كان من بينها هذه الدراسة التي تقدمها الجمعية العربية للتربية الإسلامية؛ إسهامًا منها في تحطيم قيود التبعية الحضارية وإعادة بناء الأمة.
وهذه الدراسة ثمرة بحوث قام بها نخبة من رواد الإحياء الفكري في عالمنا المعاصر، وهي تتناول مراحل تيار الأسلمة منذ البدايات الأولى حتى الآن، مع نظرة فاحصة واعدة للحاضر والمستقبل.. كما استوعبت مساحات البحث الخمس: المبدأ، والمنهج، والتطبيق، ثم تطوير العلوم الشرعية، وإصلاح مناهج الفكر الإسلامي.
