ولد الشاعر والمفكر الراحل حسين البرغوثي في قرية كوبر شمال غرب مدينة [[رام الله]]، في الخامس من أيار عام (1954)، وقد أمضى سني طفولته بين مسقط رأسه كوبر حيث أقامت والدته، وبيروت حيث عمل والده. أثر تخرجه من الثانوية العامة التحق ببرنامج العلوم السياسية واقتصاديات الدولة في جامعة بودابست للعلوم الاقتصادية في هنغاريا. وفي العام (1979) مثّل فلسطين في أكاديمية الكتابة الإبداعية في جامعة أيوا (IWP) في الو ولد الشاعر والمفكر الراحل حسين البرغوثي في قرية كوبر شمال غرب مدينة [[رام الله]]، في الخامس من أيار عام (1954)، وقد أمضى سني طفولته بين مسقط رأسه كوبر حيث أقامت والدته، وبيروت حيث عمل والده. أثر تخرجه من الثانوية العامة التحق ببرنامج العلوم السياسية واقتصاديات الدولة في جامعة بودابست للعلوم الاقتصادية في هنغاريا. وفي العام (1979) مثّل فلسطين في أكاديمية الكتابة الإبداعية في جامعة أيوا (IWP) في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية. وبعد عودته إلى فلسطيني تخرج من جامعة بيرزيت وحصل منها على شهادة البكالوريوس في الأدب الإنجليزي العام (1983) وقد عمل معيدا لسنة واحدة في جامعة بيرزيت قبل توجهه إلى الولايات المتحدة حيث حصل على درجتي الماجستير والدكتوراه في الأدب المقارن بين الأعوام (1985-1992) من جامعة واشنطن في سياتل. عاد إلى فلسطين ليعمل أستاذا للفلسفة والدراسات الثقافية في جامعة بيرزيت حتى العام (1997) وأستاذا للنقد الأدبي والمسرح في جامعة القدس حتى العام (2000). وأثناء هذه الفترة كان عضوا مؤسسا لبيت العشر الفلسطيني وعضوا للهيئة الإدارية لاتحاد الكتاب الفلسطينيين ورئيسا لتحرير مجلة اوغاريت ومديرا لتحرير مجلة الشعراء حتى رحيله في الأول من أيار (2002) حيث توفي في مسقط رأسه كوبر اثر مرض بالسرطان استمر عدة سنوات . وقد صدر للبرغوثي ما يزيد عن ستة عشر إصداراً توزعت بين الشعر والرواية والسيرة والنقد والكتابة الفلكلورية إضافة إلى العشرات من الأبحاث والدراسات الفكرية والنقدية والنقدية بعدة لغات وفي العديد من الكتب والمجلات والصحف. وفي سياق آخر فقد وضع البرغوثي سيناريوهات لأربعة أفلام سينمائية وكتب نحو سبعة مسرحيات لفرق محلية وعالمية إضافة إلى كتابة العديد من الأغاني لفرق موسيقية مختلفة نحو صابرين والرحالة وسنابل وفرقة إحياء بلدنا.
