ولد الدكتور عبد العزيز الدسوقي عام 1925 بمركز قويسنا بمحافظة المنوفية، وهو حاصل على الدكتوراه في الأدب من جامعة عين شمس.
ترأس تحرير مجلة الثقافة، كما ترأس المركز القومي للآداب بوزارة الثقافة المصرية.
توفي في الرابع والعشرين من شهر يوليو عام 2015 بالقاهرة.

يتضمن التعريف بمدرسة من أهم مدارس الشعر العربي الحديث،هى"مدرسة الديوان"وهى المدرسة التي أرست مجموعة من القيم الفنية والجمالية، ثم هى قبل ذلك مدرسة التجديد الأولى التي أحدثت أعمق التطورات في الشعر العربي الحديث، وتركت مجموعة كبيرة متنوعة من الشعر يختلف فى بنائه الفني ومذاقه الشعرى عن كثير من الشعر العربى فى كل عصوره. وقد حدد الكتاب الأصول النظرية لهذه المدرسة، وعرف بروادها شكرى والعقاد والمازنى، وأبان عن اتجاهاتها الفنية والجمالية من خلال تذوق شعرها وتوقف عند ثلاثة اتجاهات هامة من اتجاهاتها الشعرية هى: * الاتجاه التأملى * والاتجاه الوجداني * والاتجاه الوطني وإذا كان التأمل الفلسفي هو السمة المميزة لهذه المدرسة، فإن شعرها لم يخل من النزوع العاطفى ، والروح الرومانسى، وبذلك دخلت تاريخ شعرنا العربى الحديث.
