يعرض موضوع دراستنا هذه عن "الموارد الاقتصادية وموارد الطاقة والبترول" لنفسه من خلال جزئين رئيسيين. يتناول أولهما قضية الموارد الاقتصادية، ويتناول ثانيهما قضية موارد الطاقة والبترول.
ويهدف الجزء الأول من هذه الدراسة إلي تقديم خلفية عامة- ضرورية- للقارئ الذي ينوي اقدامه الأولي علي عتبة موضوع الموارد الاقتصادية فيعرفه بها كعلم وكتقسيم وكأهمية وكمجالات وموضوعات دراسة. ثم يتناول كل نوع من نوعيات هذه الموارد وفقاً لدرجة وحجم مساهمة الإنسان في إيجادها أو تخليقها.
بينما يهدف الجزء الثاني من هذه الدراسة إلي تقديم معرفة أكثر تفصيلية للقارئ المتخصص أو للقارئ العاشق لمجالات دراسة الطاقة بمصادرها الكثيرة والمتنوعة خاصة نوعيتى البترول والغار الطبيعي بوصفهما أهم واكثر أنواع ومصادر الطاقة في عصرنا الحالي- والقادم أيضاً إلي حد بعيد- شيوعاً واستخداماً واعتماداً عليهما في كل جوانب حياة هذا الإنسان المعاصرة.
وقد حاول هذا المؤلف أن ينهج منهجاً اقل جغرافية واكثر اقتصادية، وهو في سبيل علاجه لموضوع هذه الدراسة. وما ذلك إلا لكون المؤلف رجلاً اقتصادياً في المقام الأول. وأيضاً لمعرفته بأن معظم القراء لهذا المؤلف سيكونون من الدارسين لعلوم الاقتصاد والطاقة والبترول، أو من الباحثين في مختلف مجالاتهم. وبالتالي فإن مثل هذه النوعية من القراء تهتم اكثر بالجوانب الاقتصادية لموضوع الموارد، بأكثر من اهتماماتهم بجوانبها المادية أو الجغرافية البحتتين.
